DeviantArt isn't... the greatest when it comes to comics.
Navigation and cataloging are abysmal for any large scale comic format, and there's no great way of garnering exposure, either. So there should really be no surprise when I say I'm probably not going to be using this site as a webcomic platform in the future, as I've been doing before
I'm definitely planning to release webcomics, with a rather ambitious Pokémon one currently being the closest to realization
(more details on this in the near future). Question is, where shall I put them? That conundrum is what this particular journal entry will be about. There are three general options here;
1 - A personal website,
hosting a comic browser, news, galleries, and whatever else fun we can come up with. Probably the least likely thing to occur right now, but my knowledge in web design and knowledgeable contacts I've got still enables this as a possible outcome.
2 - Hopping onto one or a few of the already existing webcomic platforms out there.
This is the most attractive prospect, but the issue here is my general lack in knowledge about these sites. I've had a looksie at a good number of them, how their systems work and what kinds of formats they seem to prefer, but I couldn't come as close in understanding these platforms as someone who is well immersed in and actually uses them; be it as a producer or consumer. So what sites do you know that host webcomics? Which host really good stuff/are easy to navigate/have good community tools/do you enjoy going to? And do you know their stances on "fan work" (Pokémon comics, for example)?
Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! All I want is to make stuff for you all to enjoy, after all, and a big part of that is making my comics easily read and available to everyone!
3 - Another platform entirely.
Tumblr? Patreon? Wordpress? Squarespace? Not sure. Anything could happen. Let me know what you think!
